Erie PA News and Events for Monday October 1, 2007

Posted by Dennis on October 1, 2007
Did you know that October 1 is Cranberry Day in Erie? An act passed in 1841, imposed a fine of not less than $10, nor more than $25, on any person who should gather cranberries on Presque Isle State Park between July and September. The marshes were once full of cranberries. Large numbers of people would cross Presque Isle Bay the night before and remain until morning.

The name Jane Doe is generally used in the United States as a placeholder name for a female party in a legal action or legal discussion. I’ll now be referring to the murdered baby of Teri Rhodes as Jane Doe Rhodes. Maybe putting a name to her will help people remember she was a person and not an object.
Rhodes gave birth on August 12. Jane D Rhodes only survived 10 minutes before she was suffocated to death. Police found baby Jane Rhodes in a plastic bag. Teri Rhodes was charged with homicide and related charges including abuse of a corpse. She was released on bail and staying in her family home in Michigan.

Here’s a simulation by Kevin Brennan of the Ravine Flyer II ride posted on YouTube. WJET-TV mentioned it in a news story. Holy cow. Too cool. On Thursday I had someone from France ask if there were any recent pics of the coaster. They wanted to make sure construction was progressing and it would be open on schedule before they made plans to visit. This is going to be a HUGE attraction for Waldameer Park and Water World.

Hey! I just heard that I my rendering of the new Waldameer ride was mentioned on a local news channel and a google search brought me to this page. Thanks for helping with the sudden boost in popularity it has seen! As a coaster enthusiast, I'd just like to say that ride is world-class and will definitely draw a lot of new people to the park.
