Erie PA News and Events for Thursday October 4, 2007

Congratulations to Erie Mayor Joe Sinnott turning down the proposal from Erie County Councilman King Kyle Foust to turn over control of city owned assets for a couple of dollars. King Kyle wanted to take the airport, zoo and EMTA bus operations for $18 million. City taxpayers have been footing the bill for these operations for decades while the county and suburbs have benefited. Start adding zero’s and maybe we’ll listen next time.
Erie County government is one step from being in total chaos and Mark DiVecchio wants to give 4 of his administration pals double digit pay increases of 11-15 percent. Dumb idea and horrible timing. DiVecchio wants to raise property taxes and has most the county employees wanting to strike and he just announced he wants to increase property taxes. Too late to get a recall on the ballot?
Erie City Council wants Erie Renewable Energy to do a ‘voluntary’ environmental impact study. Cripe, they’ll still working on plans that need to given to the state first. Every time some loudmouth opposes something they jump like a bunch of trained fleas. Thanks for providing another reason why jobs can’t be attracted to Erie.
papermoon Restaurant, Gallery and Jazz Club will be closing October 20. You’ll have to go somewhere else for a $6 bowl of soup.

I'm getting much faster data speeds in Meadville on Verizon's network as well. Is anyone else seeing this? Where my phone listed the data speed at 1x before, now I'm getting 1xEV, similar to the service I get in Pittsburgh and Buffalo.

Nick posted this and more on Monday - >>It look as if there is EVDO from Pittsburgh all the way up to Stancliff Road on 99 where it then stops and from McKean into Erie it's good ol' 1x.<<

Personally I'm sad to see Papermoon close. In a town where "nice" places to eat are far and few between, this was a great place to go. I don't mind paying more for great food and for a locally owned establishment.

I second Doug's comment. They had wonderful food there. Sure, you paid a bit more, but it was well worth it.
