Erie PA News and Events for Tuesday October 9, 2007

Posted by Dennis on October 9, 2007

Erie County Office of Children and Youth union members will be back on the job today. They agreed to return to work for the next two weeks while contract talks continue. Not getting paid and losing health care benefits helped. The county had filed an injunction to force them back to their desks and Judge John Bozza convinced both sides to try and work out an agreement. Emotional outbursts from both sides don’t help with public opinion. Share a bottle of Midol already.

Erie County Council wants to steal City of Erie assets such as the airport and zoo. This could spend years in the courts if the city decides to give away control for pocket change. County Councilman King Kyle Foust wants county control of the airport in exchange for money for the runway expansion. Mayor Joe Sinnott, city council and County Executive Mark DiVecchio are seeking a compromise on the number of board member appointed by the city and county.

Approval by the CoC is given only to those facilities that have voluntarily committed to providing the highest level of quality cancer care and that undergo a rigorous evaluation process and review of their performance. To maintain approval, facilities with CoC-approved cancer programs must undergo an on-site review every three years.

22 years ago, saw John Mellencamp rock the Civic Center in November of 1985. John will probably notice the building will look the same now as it did then!

At least there's talk of renovations...

I have a poster from that show in my basement. :)
