Erie PA News and Events for Tuesday October 16, 2007

Posted by Dennis on October 16, 2007

I don’t really agree with it, but I have to give then credit for being creative. Seems like the Erie County Council and Erie City Council have reached a deal to fund the Erie Airport runway expansion project. The county will contribute at least $18 million toward the project in exchange for appointing 4 of the 9 members of the Erie Airport Authority. The county will also buy the Erie Golf Course from the city for $2 million. The Erie Golf Course would then be turned over to Millcreek Township. Three holes at the 9 hole Millcreek Golf and Learning Center in will be lost due to the runway expansion so it will be useless. Erie Golf Course is an 18 hole course located in Millcreek Township. It was closed this year due the city being inept at running anything other than their mouths. There were very nice crowds at the ‘closed’ course.

Erie County officials (The Committee to Reelect Mark DiVecchio, County Executive) and the union negotiating for the employees at the Erie County Office of Children and Youth have reached a tentative deal on a new contract. A ratification vote will be held Wednesday at which time we’ll be told how much deeper the county will have to dig into our pockets for the pay increase.

Jack at Erie Media-Go-Round confirmed that John Christianson has been named by Lilly Broadcasting of Pennsylvania, as General Manager of CBS affiliate WSEE DT 16.1 and its digital cousin, WBEP the CW affiliate located at 16.2. The station didn’t feel it was necessary to report their own news. Maybe that is due to the station now needing a News Director.

For the week of Oct 8-14, Presque Isle Downs and Casino reported wagers of $37,634,737 and payouts of $34,353,351.
