Erie PA News and Events for Veteran’s Day, Sunday November 11, 2007

Posted by Dennis on November 11, 2007
Today is Veteran’s Day. The fighting in World War I ended in 1918, on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month. Thank a Vet for the freedoms you enjoy.
I proudly served my country 1978-1991.

The Pittsburgh Steelers and Cleveland Browns game today at 1 pm will not be televised locally. Unless you have the NFL Sunday Ticket, head to a bar or club to watch the game. Even through there are only a handful of Bills fans Erie is in the Buffalo market. Complain to the Bills about the situation. Here’s the Buffalo Feedback Central where your voice can be heard. I hope the Bills never win another game and the franchise moves to another city.

The National Museum of the U S Army recognizes the service and sacrifice of the American Soldier at home and around the world, at war and during peace. The Registry of the American Soldier provides an opportunity for anyone who served in the U S Army to have his or her name and service history placed on record at the Museum. If you served, you need to be in the Registry. You may also register the name of a family member or friend, if they currently serve, or have served in the U S Army, or submit someone from the past. The Registry will be on permanent display at the Museum, and it will be accessible via the internet for those who cannot visit in person. Col (Ret) David R Fabian, director of communications at the AHF, said “We are seeking to enroll all former or current Army members including those who are deceased.” Col (Ret) Fabian is a native of Erie, PA.

William A Miller of Litchfield (MI) will be inducted today into the Michigan Veteran’s Hall of Fame. Miller will also be honored with the Nick Smith Military Person of the Year Award. He was a flight engineer and also played saxophone in the Navy band. His service included a distinguished tour of duty during the Korean War. Miller was born in Erie, PA.

John Kanzius was named Noble Person of the Week by the The Washington Times for his work on the non-invasive cancer treatment. Article.

I get a weekly email from Freddie Mac (Federal Home Loan and Mortgage Corporation) with the properties they are trying to sell in the Erie area. Usually they have lower priced homes. They have one on the market now that’s selling for $18,000 that been on the market since July. (A house for the price of a decent used car.) However, this week they included one that not even on the market yet (pictured above). It’s a 3 bedroom on Julie Ct in the Love Farm Subdivision of Millcreek. The former owners bought it for $179,900 in 2003. People usually don’t walk away from big, expensive homes. Rather than get foreclosed on, they will sell, refinance, or do something. The Jim Martin article Credit tightens as foreclosures begin to rise is about the growing number of foreclosures in the Erie area. (The article references me.) If you want more info on the homes I mentioned or other Erie real estate, contact me: Dennis Weed, Century 21 Stover Real Estate, 3409 W 26th Street, Erie, PA 16506, Cell (814) 440-0636 Bus (814) 838-2121, Fax (814) 838-2513, dweed@century21.com.

Why blame the Bills? It's an NFL rule, the Bills have nothing to do with it. Why not complain to the NFL?

"I hope the Bills never win another game and the franchise moves to another city."
