Erie PA News and Events for Monday November 12, 2007
Someone call Meadow Brook Dairy and have justice placed on the side of milk cartons.
The preliminary hearing for Teri Rhodes was scheduled for Nov 7 in front of District Judge Joseph LeFaiver at the Erie County Courthouse. Why didn’t it take place?
Teri Rhodes gave birth on August 12. The baby only survived 10 minutes before it suffocated to death. Police found the dead baby in a plastic bag. Her baby. She cut the umbilical cord with a pair of scissors and took a shower.
Rhodes needs to be put in jail waiting on her trial before another girl takes the life of their baby. Oops. That already happened. On October 23, Kathryn “Katie” McCoy, a 19 year old member of the women’s golf team at Bellarmine University, had a baby and murdered her own child. McCoy gave birth in her bathroom and let the baby drown in the toilet. Exactly like Rhodes, McCoy concealed the pregnancy to family and friends and denied the birth.
State Senator Jane Earll, R-Erie, along with John Wozniak, D-Johnstown, and Patrick Browne, R-Allentown, are working on a bill to reform earned income tax collection around the state. Currently, nearly every municipality collect their own income tax. There are 560 tax collectors and their proposal would cut it down to 66, one for each county. Berkheimer Associates is contracted to collect the 1.18 percent income tax for people working in the City of Erie. They also collect the $52 Emergency Municipal Services Tax (EMS) which is better known as the Occupational Privilege Tax. Other municipalities have a 1 percent earned income tax and the EMS varies widely.
