Michael of Buffalo blogged that he was on his way to work in Erie driving along on I-90 when he saw that someone had an accident with a deer and was hitting the deer in the head with a hammer. Hope that was to quickly end the suffering.
Today is Women in Engineering Day at Penn State Behrend. It’s is designed to introduce high school girls to various engineering fields using hands-on and interactive activities. Seventy tenth and eleventh grade girls from Northwest Pennsylvania Collegiate Academy, Harbor Creek High School, Iroquois Junior-Senior High School, Meadville Area Senior High School, and McDowell High School are taking part in the program.
Colleen Devine of Edinboro, a seventh grade student at Villa Maria Elementary School in Erie, took second place in the state Radon poster contest. The National Safety Council and the EPA sponsored the radon poster contest for students ages 9 through 14.

Using hot 3-point shooting and a balanced offensive attack, the Mercyhurst College men’s basketball team rolled to an 81-67 victory over Roberts Wesleyan College in the season opener at the Mercyhurst Athletic Center Thursday evening.
The Mercyhurst College women’s basketball team built a 15 point lead and held on to defeat Mansfield 67-61 in the season opener Thursday.
Mike Machuga of Erie is in 11th place after the second round at the PBA Tour’s Lake County Indiana Classic.
Tom Brookens was named manger of the Erie SeaWolves. Brookens managed the Class A West Michigan Whitecaps which won the Midwest League title in 2007. He spent the 2005 and 2006 seasons managing Oneonta of the New York - Penn League. Brookens is a native of Chambersburg, PA.
Despite opening the season with three straight wins, the Edinboro University wrestling team fell one spot to 17th place in the latest USA Today/NWCA/InterMat Division I Top 25. The Fighting Scots opened the year in 16th place and posted wins over Mercyhurst, Army and Maryland in the Fighting Scot Duals.
Gannon University has a good shot to win a football game next year as they have scheduled Lake Erie College for Aug 30. Lake Erie College just started their football program and competed as a club sport this year. They make the leap to Division II next year.
The Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM) Student Scholarship Auction Committee has announced that the College will hold the 14th Annual Student Scholarship Fund Auction this evening at the new Erie Bayfront Convention Center with the purpose of providing scholarships to their students.
Presque Isle Downs and Casino is giving away $5000 with their Harvest Cash Giveaway on Nov 17 from 10 am to 2 pm. Eight winners will received $500 and one winner will receive $1000.
The Erie Civic Music Association concert on Sunday Nov 18 at 3 pm is a Big Band Salute to Hollywood with a 13 piece orchestra, vocal ensemble, dancers, and beautiful costumes. Music from Cole Porter, Irving Berlin, Duke Ellington, Henry Mancini, Andrew Lloyd Weber and others are featured in the tribute to the silver screen. Tickets are $22.
Michael Acri’s 23rd Annual Erie Boxing Classic will be held Wednesday, November 21 at The Avalon Hotel in downtown Erie. Former IBF lightweight champion Paul Spadafora (40-0-1, 16 KOs) is the headliner.
The Erie Central High School Class of 1997 Reunion is holding their 10 year reunion on Saturday, November 24 at the Cornerstone Bar and Grill, 809 East 38th St.

The Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine School of Pharmacy has scheduled an On Campus Day on November 29, 3-5 pm, to provide opportunities for prospective students to tour the campus facilities and learn about the Doctor of Pharmacy Program. It includes a tour of the facility, a Pharmacy Compounding and Dispensing demonstration, an opportunity to meet with current students and faculty, an overview of the LECOM Doctor of Pharmacy programs and information on the admissions process and financial aid.
European and African tradition meet in the annual holiday performance by the Penn State Behrend Concert Choir and Chamber Choir. The concert takes place at 8 pm Friday, Nov 30, in the college’s Larry and Kathryn Smith Chapel. Tickets are $5 for general admission and $3 for Penn State Behrend students, faculty and staff. They can be purchased at the Reed Union Building information desk and at the door.
