Erie PA News and Events for Wednesday November 28, 2007
The management and public relations fiasco at the State Correctional Institution at Albion about the escape of Malcolm Kysor continues to get worse. Kysor, serving a life sentence for murder, is still on the loose. Charles Robertson called everyone (except me) about the, as he called it and I agree, incompetence at the prison. Robertson had a contract with the prison to take away food scraps in plastic garbage cans. He said that the cans weren’t checked before he drove out of the prison and that cans larger he he should have been given were used. Kysor escaped by hiding in a lager garbage can. Robertson also said that years ago the prison asked him to get into the pig farmer business so that they could get rid of their food scraps. He said that the prison has now stopped giving him scraps that he now that to buy feed for the pigs. He feels he’s being retaliated against for their mistakes.
Around 3 pm on Monday the The Pennsylvania Department of Corrections and Pennsylvania State Police issued a press release about the escape of Kysor from the from the SCI-Albion. It seems Harrisburg has taken control over the matter from officials at SCI-Albion, at least PR-wise. And here’s the best part of the press release -
To supplement the CAN (community alert network) system, the prison uses an emergency siren. The siren is tested daily at noon. If it’s heard at other times, neighbors should immediately lock their doors and tune to local news media for information. What a joke. They must mean the NEXT time there is an escape. When Kysor escaped, the media learned about it from phone calls from prison neighbors.
Pennsylvania Crime Stoppers is offering a cash reward of up to $2000 for leading to the arrest of Kysor. Call 1-800-4PA-TIPS with any info.
Nintendo of America President Reggie “The Regginator” Fils-Aime was in Erie last weekend checking supplies of Wii game consoles. He didn’t find any. They were sold out. Nintendo makes about 1.8 million units per month.
