Erie PA News and Events for Tuesday December 4, 2007
Under Pennsylvania State Senate Bill 1051, introduced by Earll, the board of the Erie Airport Authority would be made up of 11 members - 2 appointed by the Pennsylvania governor, 7 by the Erie County executive and only 2 by the City of Erie. The bill passed the senate by a voice vote. It must still be passed by the state house and signed by the governor. This stupid move by Earll is going to jeopardize the runway extension project. Erie County has already agreed to fund the local money. The city has run the Erie Airport since 1936 with the Erie Airport Authority operating the facility since 1950. If the state wants to steal an asset from the city, write us a big fat check. The Fifth Amendment to the United States Constitution says “nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation.” Erie taxpayers have paid for this asset. If they want it, show us the money.
The state can’t even fund Presque Isle State Park properly. We have to go begging to the federal government every year for money for sand replenishment.
