Toni and Guy HairDressing Academy had a bomb threat yesterday which shut down the school and a good chunk of downtown Erie. Of course police didn’t find anything. Triangle Tech had bomb threats on Nov 20 and again on Nov 21.

Advance America, the cash advance company, is closing all their Pennsylvania locations. In September, they closed 31 of their 97 PA locations after a court ruling. Advance America has locations in Edinboro, Meadville and two in Erie.

Flickerstick has added a couple of dates to their college tour. They will play a concert on January 26 at Penn State Behrend. Flickerstick won the “Bands on the Run” reality show on VH1 in 2001 but seemed to fall off the face of the Earth by 2004.

The Northwest Pennsylvania Regional Planning and Development Commission reduced the interest rate on their microloan program to 6 percent. The maximum loan amount is $20,000 and companies must have 10 of fewer employees.

Max and Erma’s Restaurants announced it received a NASDAQ Deficiency Letter from The NASDAQ Stock Market informing the Company that the Company has not maintained a minimum market value of publicly held shares of $5,000,000 as required for continued listing on the NASDAQ. They have 90 days to get their value of $5 million or they will be delisted. The company has 80 restaurants including one in Erie. The stock tanked on the news losing almost 17 percent in after hours trading.

Railpower Technologies (TSX: P) announced that its shareholders voted in favor of an investment of $35 million by the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan. Railpower makes railroad switching locomotives. Its US office is located in Erie, PA.

Andrew Dahlkemper was recently named Executive Vice President, Worldwide Human Resources at BEA Systems (NASDAQ: BEAS). BEA is headquartered in San Jose, CA with 91 offices in 38 countries. Dahlkemper holds a BA in Communications-English from Gannon University in Erie, PA.

Alan Zeppenfeld has been named Vice President, Sales at Portfolio Financial Servicing Company. Zeppenfeld received his undergraduate and MBA degrees from Gannon University in Erie, PA.

Erie PA native Bob Sanders (Erie Cathedral Prep) was named to the Pro Bowl. Sanders was also named a starter in 2005 but missed out last year when he missed 12 games with a knee injury. He has 119 tackles, 67 solos, and also has 2.5 sacks, an interception, five blocked passes and a fumble recovery.

In year’s past the Edinboro men’s basketball team has performed very well in PSAC crossover games against their Eastern Division rivals. But that has not been the case this season, as the Fighting Scots are now 0-3 against the PSAC East following Tuesday’s 72-67 loss to East Stroudsburg at Koehler Fieldhouse. Edinboro is in the midst of an eight-game road trip, and all three crossover contests have been on the road. Last night’s loss snaps a two-game winning streak as the Fighting Scots fall to 5-3. East Stroudsburg is also 5-3.

Bellarmine (KY) snapped a 72-72 tie with a 10-2 run late in regulation and earned an 84-79 victory over Gannon in women’s basketball action Tuesday afternoon during the first day of action at the Cruzin Classic in Miami Shores, Florida.

The Edinboro women’s basketball held off a late East Stroudsburg rally to hand the Warriors a 70-62 loss on Tuesday night at Koehler Fieldhouse. The game was the first of two PSAC crossover games for the Fighting Scots following a ten-day layoff for final exams. Edinboro is now 4-3, while East Stroudsburg, the preseason favorite in the PSAC East, fell to 3-5.

For beginners and more experienced skiers wanting to know more about the winter world around them, enjoy Guided Cross-Country Skiing on Saturday, January 5 at 1 pm at Presque Isle State Park. There will be a Snowshoe Building Workshop on Saturday, January 5 at 9 am to 3 pm at the Tom Ridge Environmental Center at Presque Isle. Build your own snowshoes - great to use, hang on the wall, or pass along for generations. $155 fee, registration required, call (814) 833-7424.

The 25th annual McDonald’s High School Basketball Classic will be held in Erie PA on Friday, January 18 and Saturday January 18, 2008 at the Gannon University Hammermill Center. St Edward of Lakewood Ohio, Rice High School of NYC, Saint Patrick of Elizabeth NJ and Erie Cathedral Prep are in the powerful field. Adult General Admission tickets are $7 and Student General Admission are tickets are $5. Reserved tickets are $12.50.


The Association of Program Members (APM) of General Electric Transportation in Erie PA announced that it will be sponsoring the 13th Annual Winter Wishes Benefit Gala for the Foundation of Western Pennsylvania on February 16, 2008. Each year, the members of APM reach out to the community to collect donations for the silent auctions, live auctions and raffles that are held at the event. They also solicit “table sponsors” from local businesses. As a table sponsor, the business’ name appears on the centerpiece showing their support for this wonderful event as well as in any promotional materials that they put together for the function. The money raised with the auctioned items donated by local businesses will help provide funding for Make-A-Wish Foundation, which grants wishes for children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength, and joy. Community support of this event is recognition of the importance of this cause are greatly appreciated. Along with your assistance, GE will be able to make an impact on the day-to-day life of children whose lives are threatened.
