Indianapolis Colts safety Bob Sanders of Erie, PA was named the Associated Press 2007 NFL Defensive Player of the Year. Voting wasn’t even close as Sanders received 31 first place votes. Two other tied with 4 each. Sanders was a two time all-state performer for Erie Cathedral Prep and went on to star at Iowa. He was recently named to the Prop Bowl for the second time. The most amazing thing is that Sanders is only 5’ 8”.

One for three on robberies. Around 10:30 pm last night a man attempted to rob the Red Hots Restaurant (excellent Greek food) at 13th and Parade. He ran out when the manager behind the counter answered the request for money with a shotgun. Moments later, the man did rob the Country Fair at 12th and Parade. Must not have gotten they money he needed as it seems the same man attempted to also rob the Tim Hortons a block away around 1 am. He didn’t get any money there.

Saint Vincent Health Center has been recognized as one of the nation’s top hospitals for cardiovascular care in an article recently published by Modern Healthcare announcing the 2007 Thompson 100 Top Hospitals. This significant designation is the result of quality patient outcomes, quicker recovery times and shorter hospital stays.
“We’re honored to be recognized among the best hospitals in the nation,” says C Angela Bontempo, President and CEO Saint Vincent Health System. “Our continuing commitment to a higher standard of care ensures that our patients receive treatment based on guidelines proven to provide better outcomes. Saint Vincent has consistently scored in the top ten percent among hospitals in the nation on a number of heart-related quality measures, so this achievement comes as no surprise.”
The report, compiled by Thompson Healthcare, found that Saint Vincent earned a spot among the top 100 hospitals by demonstrating a level of performance for cardiovascular care that serves as a target for other hospitals in the country. According to the published study, Saint Vincent Health Center performed better than the national norm with lower mortality and complication rates for heart patients. The study also found Saint Vincent was among a group of hospitals that had lower costs and shorter hospital stays than peer hospitals.
“This is just the latest designation for Saint Vincent among many other recent achievements we are very proud of, including being chosen as one of the top 5 Best Places to Work in PA for 2007, making the 2007 list of AARP Best Employers for Workers Over 50, and earning a top hospital ranking for heart attack care,” said Bontempo. “Each honor we receive is a reflection of our commitment to providing the highest quality care for our patients, and 2007 has certainly been a great year of accomplishment for Saint Vincent.”
Saint Vincent Health Center is a 436 bed not-for-profit tertiary care facility located in Erie, PA. Saint Vincent was founded in 1875 by the Sisters of Saint Joseph of Northwestern Pennsylvania as the area’s first hospital and is now the region’s third largest employer with 2,900 employees.
