Erie PA News and Events for Wednesday January 23, 2008

The Sundbergs were treated to a week at Disney last week by Make a Wish. They needed to go now because Jack is doing well right now but the prognosis is still bad. The family was trying to get back to Erie Sunday night and found themselves stranded in Detroit due to weather closing the Erie Airport. They were not looking forward to sleeping in the airport overnight. Craig went to the Westin Hotel desk there in the airport and they quoted him over $300 for a room - out of the question for the Sundbergs. They were going to sleep in the concourse. Along comes another Erie traveler who is in the same situation. Craig realized he was on the same plane from Orlando and was trying to get to Erie also. They traded stories and lamented their situation. Lo and behold the traveler comes over to Craig and hands him a room key. He said “I have two rooms and I only need one so here you go.” The traveler was John Brinling, the President of Erie Insurance. Suffice to say the Sundbergs were very grateful.

While in the military, he served as a SAW gunner, grenadier and fire team leader in the 2nd Battalion, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment.

AMB Predictive Data Management New Generation Data Empowerment that currently provides direct sourcing with Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, IBM DB2/UDB and Flat Files, has now added sourcing with IBM’s AS400 servers and Z/OS Mainframe. This provides organizations using legacy technology, that have been abandoned by many software companies, the ability to have their data directly accessed, profiled, analyzed and have corrective actions taken without moving these vast amounts of crucial, sensitive, strategic and private data to staging areas or black box repositories.
Citing direct benefits of AMB-PDM’s sourcing of IBM’s Z/OS, James Viveralli, CIDM Data Architect Technical Architecture for Erie Insurance, states, “Sourcing DB2 Z/OS directly from AMB-PDM will be a huge benefit to Erie Insurance. Most of our data is in DB2 Z/OS. Now we won’t have to copy our DB2 Z/OS data to flat files, Oracle, SQL Server or DB2 LUW before profiling. Not only does it save time and space, it also increases the likelihood that data stewards will profile their data.”
