Erie PA News and Events for Saturday January 26, 2008

Posted by Dennis on January 26, 2008

Erie County Executive Mark DiVecchio wants a new office on the fifth floor of the courthouse. He might not have to wait for the $3 million renovation and the removal of the jail cells of the old pre-release center.
An investigation by Erie County Controller Sue Weber uncovered the following alleged acts:
* Erie County Executive Mark DiVecchio was caught using an Erie County employee with an Erie County vehicle to plow his home driveway. The county employee was on the clock at the time.
* Erie County Executive Mark DiVecchio used Erie County employees to set up a booth at Celebrate Erie for his catering business. The county employees were on the clock at the time.
* Erie County Executive Mark DiVecchio used Erie County employees to help his sister move. The county employees were on the clock at the time.
There should be a criminal investigation into the matter and it’s likely there will be a State Ethics Commission investigation.
Imagine how fast a manager at a business would be fired if they used subordinates to do their personal work. It seems if you’re working at the Erie County Courthouse, you’re not working for the citizens of Erie County - you’re just working for DiVecchio.
