The Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) is warning local taxing districts in Pennsylvania about misleading materials being distributed by an Erie, Pennsylvania based company, Municipal Revenue Service, Inc (MRSI), in the marketing of its I-PORTAL tax lien management program. The GASB refutes statements made by MRSI in its marketing materials that the company’s I-PORTAL program has been reviewed or embraced by the GASB or that the GASB has specifically authorized taxing districts to incorporate such process as a standard practice. The MRSI marketing materials contain unauthorized copies and depictions of the distinctive GASB trademarks and logos, and include language which creates the impression that the materials are sponsored or endorsed by GASB.
According to Robert Attmore, chairman of the GASB, “The GASB has never endorsed the so-called I-PORTAL program, and in fact had not even been aware of its existence until these claims were brought to our attention.”
The Financial Accounting Foundation (FAF), the parent entity of the GASB, has sent a cease and desist letter to MRSI, ordering MRSI to cease distribution of these materials and any other misleading representations that the GASB has endorsed its product. It also demands that MRSI cease its unauthorized use of the GASB trademark and logo in its company literature. “As a precaution, the GASB is reaching out to our state and local government constituents in Pennsylvania to make them aware of this potential scam,” adds Mr. Attmore “and to encourage them to be wary of similar misrepresentations by unscrupulous businesses and individuals.” By a letter issued late last week, the FAF and GASB are also notifying the Pennsylvania Attorney General of the potential scam and will cooperate in any official investigation of this matter.

NanoLogix (OTC: NNLX) a nano-biotechnology company announces that National Public Radio (NPR) is currently featuring broadcast articles on the NanoLogix hydrogen bioreactor technology under development at Welch’s in North East, Pennsylvania. The articles, produced by Lisa Ann Pinkerton under the auspices of GLRC’s “The Environment Report”, began airing on various affiliated NPR stations February 4. The broadcasts are ongoing, dependent upon local programming needs, and are being aired in two segments, with a short version at the top of the hour, and a longer version following either “Morning Edition” or “All Things Considered”. The articles can be accessed here and here. A video demonstrating the hydrogen operations at Welch’s is available here. NanoLogix CEO Bret Barnhizer stated, “We are grateful to be able to present information about this technology to the public with the assistance of GLRC and NPR and hope that these broadcast articles contribute to increased public awareness of the technological possibilities available in the search for alternative energy sources.” NanoLogix has signed an agreement with the City of Erie Wastewater Treatment Plant for a prototype bioreactor installation based upon NanoLogix’s patents and designed to extract hydrogen from activated sewage sludge. Research and development is ongoing at Gannon University in Erie, solely funded by NanoLogix, and using the services of Biofuel Engineering Science LLC, a private research company. The Company’s goal is to capitalize on the potential energy value of over 170 million tons of sewer sludge generated annually in the United States. NanoLogix plans to install a prototype hydrogen bioreactor specifically designed for converting activated sludge in the Spring of 2008.
