The GE (NYSE: GE) 2008 Annual Meeting of Shareholders will be held today in Erie, PA at the Erie Bayfront Convention Center. The meeting is closed to the public however, GE will have a exhibit on display that shows what they do in Erie that you can stop down and see. That information session is scheduled for 3-7 pm at the Convention Center.

Most of the GE officials spent a couple of days staying at the SpringHill Suites in Erie.

Kathy Dahlkemper won the Democratic nomination for the 3rd Congressional District seat. The race went Dahlkemper, Kyle Foust, Tom Myers and Mike Waltner. She’ll face Republican incumbent Phil English and Independent Steven Porter in November’s general election.

Senator Hillary Clinton beat Senator Barack Obama be nearly a 2-1 margin in Erie County, 62.8 percent to 36.8 percent. Clinton won Pennsylvania be about 10 percentage points, 54.3 to 45.8, and gained 10 delegates on Obama.


Parma, Ohio police are looking for a 14 year old Alissa Dukovich and her 17 year old boyfriend Cory Warfield. Pennsylvania State Police recovered a stolen vehicle in Girard, PA where they couple are believed to have taken another vehicle. They are believed to be in the Erie, PA area. Broadwind Energy, Inc (OTC Bulletin Board: BWEN) announced that its wholly owned subsidiary, Brad Foote Gear Works Inc, has signed a three year, evergreen supply agreement with GE Transportation to provide gear sets for use in wind turbine gearboxes, which GE Transportation builds in Erie, Pa for the North American market. “Brad Foote is proud to have been a partner in GE Transportation’s development of this advanced design, highly reliable gear system,” said J Cameron Drecoll, CEO of Broadwind. “GE Transportation has taught our people lean technologies as well as the value of Six Sigma. The Erie SeaWolves snapped a two-game losing skid with a 12-2 win over the Harrisburg Senators on Tuesday night at Commerce Bank Park. The SeaWolves and Senators wrap up a three-game series on Wednesday afternoon at Commerce Bank Park…12:05 First Pitch. LHP Luke French (0-2, 8.80 ERA) takes the mound for Erie against RHP Marco Estrada (1-1, 3.60 ERA).

Canisius College women’s basketball coach Terry Zeh has announced that Jen Gwin has joined the Golden Griffin coaching staff as an assistant coach. Gwin spent the 2007-08 season as an assistant coach at Saint Francis University (Pa). A 2006 graduate of Gannon University, Gwin was a student assistant coach for the Golden Knights after she played four seasons for Gannon. Gwin graduated as a double major, earning a BS in finance with a minor in marketing, as well as a BS in management with a minor in human resources.

The Penn State Behrend baseball team took on the Allegheny Gators on Tuesday at the Behrend baseball field. The teams split the doubleheader as Behrend (24-8) earned a come-from-behind win by a 3-2 score in game one and Allegheny took game two 5-1.

Former Erie Otters Goaltender Ryan Ludzik was named Player of the Year for the Greater Ontario Hockey League’s Golden Horseshoe Division. Ludzik plaed for the Niagara Falls Canucks who are in the the junior B league.

Every Wednesday is free admission to all four Erie Art Museum galleries from 11 am to 5 pm.

Goodell Gardens and Homestead is looking for volunteers. Join them for their Volunteer Recruitment Days on Wednesday April 23 or Saturday May 3. Goodell Gardens and Homestead is a non-profit, education-oriented botanical garden and arboretum on the 78-acre Goodell family farm in Edinboro PA that emulates the Goodell family passion for gardening, history and horticulture. Goodell Gardens provides for the care of a significant collection of both botanical specimens and local historical archives. The Gardens are open to the public yearly, May through October.

The Crime Victim Center of Erie County 4th Annual Awards Luncheon to honor people in the community for their role in “reducing the impact of crime” will be held at the Ambassador Banquet and Conference Center on April 23 from 11:30 am-1:00 pm. Music at Noon: The Logan Series brings Percussion Group Cincinnati to Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, this month. The award-winning ensemble in residence at the College-Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati will perform at noon on Thursday, April 24, in the McGarvey Commons of the college’s Reed Union Building. Admission is FREE and the audience is welcome to bring a bagged lunch to enjoy with the performance, or purchase a meal from Bruno’s Cafe, which is located on Reed’s second floor.

Poet Malena Morling will read from her works at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, as part of the college’s Creative Writer’s Speaker Series. Morling’s reading will begin at 6 pm on Thursday, April 24, in the college’s Larry and Kathryn Smith Chapel. A reception for her will precede the reading at 4:30 in the chapel’s first-floor living room; both events are FREE and open to the public.

The Moving Wall, the half-size replica of the Washington DC Vietnam Veterans Memorial that has been touring the country for more than twenty years, will be on display in Edinboro, PA May 1-5.

A Gannon University professor on Thursday, May 1, will host a discussion on the individual psychology of Alfred Adler. Ken McCurdy, PhD, associate professor, Gannon University community counseling program, will discuss “The Nuts and Bolts of Adlerian Clinical Supervision.” The discussion will be held from 8-10 pm in the Dean’s office on the first floor of Gannon’s Palumbo Academic Center, 824 Peach Street. The event will serve as the monthly TAPTalks colloquium hosted by Gannon University. Gannon’s Community Counseling program, the Gamma Upsilon Chi chapter of Chi Sigma Iota, and the Lake Erie Adlerian Institute are sponsoring the event. The TAPTalks colloquiums present brief, in-depth training experiences focusing on the individual psychology of Alfred Adler. In celebration of The National Trust for Historic Preservation’s 2008 Preservation Month theme, “Place Matters,” the Erie Center for Design and Preservation is hosting a lecture, seminar and walking tour on May 9-10. All three events are FREE and open to the public. The internationally-known founder of the Pittsburgh History and Landmarks Foundation, Mr. Arthur Ziegler, will be the featured speaker at the Erie Center for Design and Preservation’s first public event. Ziegler’s lecture, “The Good Works of Historic Preservation,” will be delivered Friday, May 9 at 7 PM in the Orientation Theatre of the Erie Maritime Museum, adjacent to the Blasco Memorial Library on Erie’s Bayfront. Ziegler says “historic preservation should be looked upon as both a cultural and economic development tool, leading to community revitalization, local investment, jobs, and a better quality of life.” On Saturday morning, May 10, the Erie Center for Design and Preservation (ECDP) will sponsor a seminar on historic preservation. Topics include: an overview of the National Register of Historic Places, the economics of preservation, and the tax credits afforded to property owners who rehabilitate historic buildings. The seminar will be held Saturday, May 10 from 9 AM to Noon at the Erie Art Museum Annex, 20 East 5th Street. On Saturday afternoon, May 10 , Mr Jeff Kidder AIA of Kidder Wachter Architecture will offer a 90 minute architectural walking tour of lower State Street and Perry Square. Kidder will meet members of the tour on the front steps of the Erie Art Museum, 417 State Street at 1 PM. Kidder will discuss the history of the City of Erie, neighborhood changes and attributes of the remaining historic structures. Kidder believes that “historic preservation in Erie is an effective tool for managing growth, revitalizing neighborhoods, fostering local pride and maintaining community character while enhancing livability.” Kidder serves on the City of Erie Planning Commission, the Downtown Improvement District board, the Erie Center for Design and Preservation board, and the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission Historic Preservation board.

The Gannon University Small Business Development Center along with Paulsen Productions are sponsoring “From Service To Success”, a seminar for entrepreneurial veterans. It will be held May 20 at the Gannon Yehl Ballroom, 124 West 7th St in Erie. Cost is $15 and registration is required.

KillerWolf Films is holding meetings/open auditions for their new feature film “Warriors of the Apocalypse” on Friday May 23 and Saturday May 24. They will be held at the Playhouse Rehearsal space on 950 State Street in Erie from 6-9 pm both days. Shooting commences Saturday July 19 and wraps Sunday July 27, with filming being in the Northwestern PA area and possibly a few dates on the NJ/PA/NY border. KillerWolf Films latest release, “Fist of the Vampire”, is now available for pre-order on Amazon.com and is to be released worldwide July 8 from Maxim Media International/Brain Damage Films. KillerWolf Films is co-owned by Erieite Len Kabasinski and Meadville,PA native Lisa McQuiston.

The charity bellydance event, “Shimmy for a Cure”, will be held May 31 at the Erie Playhouse in downtown Erie, PA. This event will benefit the John Kanzius Cancer Research Foundation.

Head Coach John T Reilly of Gannon University will conduct three sessions of basketball camp this summer. Sessions will be held June 9-13, June 23-27 and August 4-8. His coaching staff, area high school coaches and several of his players will serve as camp instructors. The sessions are designed as teaching camps that emphasize the fundamentals of the game of basketball. The camps are for students in Grades 3-10.

There will be a Rust Belt Bloggers Summit on July 11-12 in Erie. People from Youngstown, Buffalo, Cleveland, Pittsburgh and other area cities will be attendance to discuss economic development issues in the region.

Roar on the Shore
The Manufacturers’ Association and Erie-Western Pennsylvania Port Authority annual Roar on the Shore motorcycle rally will be held July 17-20, 2008. While downtown Erie serves as the hub of the rally, related events take place throughout the city and region. Most notably, two outdoor concerts featuring major artists will be held Friday and Saturday, July 18 and 19, at Liberty Park along Presque Isle Bay.
