Pennsylvania Passes Budget
To the surprise of many, including legislators, Pennsylvania has a budget ready for next fiscal year, meeting tonight’s midnight deadline by less than 24 hours.
Very early this morning, Governor Rendell and legislators agreed on a $28.2 billion dollar budget that will bring money to the state’s infrastructure, schools, and development of alternative energy. Although the budget saw an increase of 3.8% over last year, it is $120 million less than the governor initially requested in February.
More on the budget here.

I love that a 3.8% INCREASE is actually a CUT! "We had to tighten their belts" said Governor Rendell. CUTS are actually when you REDUCE spending not when it doesn't go up as much as you want! No wonder we are like 46 out of 50 states for high taxes.

I was a little surprised even with a modest 3.8% increase however it appears that a lot of money will be used to prop up the state's aging and failing infrastructure--an area that badly needs attention.
Along this same line, I think the next president and Congress will devote a lot of attention and money to infrastructure needs across the U.S. Something I thought should have been a priority during the last presidential campaign.
