Erie PA News and Events for Friday, July 18, 2008
I (Mike) had the pleasure of presenting at yesterday’s Lunch and Learn session presented by the Technology Council of Northwest Pennsylvania. I talked about how to integrate social networking into your business, and the full house had plenty of great questions and comments. I also got to meet a bunch of ErieBlogs readers, which is always great. It’s a lot of work to do the site but when you talk to people that read it every day, it recharges the batteries and motivates Rich and me to continue truckin’ and getting better.
Erie Indemnity Co. has appointed Terrence Cavanaugh as President, Chief Executive Officer and a director of the company, effective July 29. Cavanaugh joins Erie Indemnity from the Chubb Corporation where he has most recently served as Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for its Surety business. Cavanaugh is the first CEO to come from outside Erie Insurance in its 80+ year history. That’s two major companies in Erie that announced new CEO’s yesterday. Welcome to Erie, Mr. Cavanaugh.
People in Erie are asking: who is Lorenzo Simonelli? The newly appointed President and CEO of GE Transportation will be setting up camp in Erie to replace John Dineen who will be President and CEO of GE Healthcare in London. Not much is known about Lorenzo except that he’s a young 35 years old and attended Cardiff University in Wales. Although it apears Lorenzo has been enjoying the scenery of Budapest for the last year or so, he’s no stranger to the region. In 2002, he spent time in Cleveland Ohio working for GE Consumer Products, so we’re sure Lorenzo will find Erie a comfortable home for the next few years (until the next shuffle of management occurs). We imagine that when Lorenzo found out about his promotion, he reacted much the same way as “Jack Donaghy” did when he was promoted to run GE (25 second video clip opens in new window).
