Indianapolis Colts safety Bob Sanders of Erie, PA was named the Associated Press 2007 NFL Defensive Player of the Year. Voting wasn’t even close as Sanders received 31 first place votes. Two other tied with 4 each. Sanders was a two time all-state performer for Erie Cathedral Prep and went on to star at Iowa. [...]

Toni and Guy HairDressing Academy had a bomb threat yesterday which shut down the school and a good chunk of downtown Erie. Of course police didn’t find anything. Triangle Tech had bomb threats on Nov 20 and again on Nov 21. Advance America, the cash advance company, is closing all their Pennsylvania locations. [...]

Kevin Mahoney fo Erie PA was named a Carnegie Medal winner yesterday by the Carnegie Hero Fund Commission. A train derailment in Westfield NY, about 30 miles east of Erie, caused train traffic delays from Chicago to NYC. The CSX freight train had only a half dozen of the cars jump the track. Erie Mayor Joe Sinnott appointed Ron Komorek acting city finance director. Komorek was the Erie County Finance Director for a number of years. He retired when Rick Shenker took office.
