Spring forward. Fall back. Only thing useful about it is that it reminds us to change the batteries in our smoke detectors.

The publication Keystone Edge has an interesting article on craft breweries and the future of beer distribution in PA. Pennsylvania boasts a $7 billion brewing industry. Missing from the article is any mention of Erie Brewing Company which recently won the 2008 Bronze Medal in the Scottish Style Ale category finishing third out of 24 other Scottish [...]

Today we’re taking the wraps off our newest project – our new Government Contacter. I’ve read both good and bad ideas on local blogs about ways to improve Erie. It’s easy to suggest change, it’s hard to actually get the ball rolling and get things accomplished. Today, we’re making getting that ball started a little [...]

Indianapolis Colts safety Bob Sanders of Erie, PA was named the Associated Press 2007 NFL Defensive Player of the Year. Voting wasn’t even close as Sanders received 31 first place votes. Two other tied with 4 each. Sanders was a two time all-state performer for Erie Cathedral Prep and went on to star at Iowa. [...]

Erie City Council unanimously passed Erie Mayor Joe Sinnott’s proposed 2008 $57.1 million budget. A second reading is still required. All members of Erie City Council as well as Mayor Joe Sinnott are tax-and-spend liberal Democrats. Council ignored $335,500 in budget cuts recommended by their own accountant, Sean T Sullivan, CPA. Here are the recommended [...]

Erie City Council held their biweekly meeting last evening. They might have well just stayed home because they got nothing accomplished. They are expected to make decisions. They can’t grasp the concept. Organized activity to accomplish an objective: Action. Learn it. Live it. They afraid about making decisions? Cripe, they re-elected anyway. Item 1: The [...]

Thou shall not mess with Erie Insurance. ERIE didn’t become a $3.75 billion company by paying out claims and if they think they paid out a false claim – watch out. It doesn’t matter who you are. A federal grand jury indicted Pennsylvania Superior Court Judge Michael Joyce on mail fraud and money laundering. Joyce [...]

While Erie City Council was raising taxes including a change to the 3 percent amusement tax to cover all ballgames, concerts and other events that cost less than $5 in Erie, the Pittsburgh City Council cut it’s 5 percent amusement tax to 1.25 percent. Pittsburgh found that a high amusement tax caused concert tours and [...]

Erie City Council held a Saturday budget session and rubber stamped the budget submitted by Mayor Joe Sinnott making only one minor change of $24,000 to the $59.9 million budget. The formal vote on the budget will be held at the regular council meeting on December 20. Council made no cuts to the budget only [...]

Erie City Council, oblivious as to their actual role, voted 5-2 to support a smoking ban in Erie County. This is a matter for Erie County Council and all it did was waste time they could have spent dealing with problems facing the city. Councilman Curtis Jones, Jr correctly pointed out they were voting to [...]

The best argument against democracy is five minutes of an average Erie City Council meeting. However, they did pretty well last night electing Joseph Schember to fill the counicl seat caused by the resignation of Dr Lonnie Gatlin. Gatlin resigned for ‘health reasons’ which was a polite way of saying the actual reason which everyone [...]

Like a crackhead that’s got to have their drugs and a welfare bum that needs a big screen TV when they can’t afford food or rent, Erie City Council will discuss hiring 5 police officers at their weekly meeting tonight even though the city is millions over budget, has millions in unpaid bills and faces [...]

Erie City Council passed the 3 percent entertainment tax at last night’s meeting. All seven members of council and the Erie mayor are Democrats. The 3 percent tax will be added to all entertainment tickets priced over $5. One item about the situation did make me chuckle. There was the argument that the Tullio Arena [...]

Erie City Council is again jeopardizing the financial future of the City of Erie. A tax meant to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars will now generate nothing for the general fund and only grow the bloated employment level of the city. To generate revenue for the city which is millions of dollars away from [...]

A quote from Erie City Councilman Pat Cappabianca during last nights council meeting “We (the city) don’t have enough income to meet our expenses.” Only pre-teens and politicans could say something like that. The pre-teen would ask for an increase in their allowance from their parents. A normal parent would say to stop spending so [...]

Erie Mayor Joe Sinnott and Erie City Council sat down and listened to a couple of money saving suggestions the consulting firm of Resource Development and Management. Erie City Council passed it’s $54.8M 2006 budget on Wednesday. Current City Councilman and mayor-elect Joe Sinnott, Jim Thompson and Pat Cappabianca fought till the end for a higher property tax increase. What a bunch of bastards. Only a token effort was made to cut costs throughout the entire budget process. Fiduciary responsibility is a [...]

Erie City Council will vote to pass the budget for 2006 at their meeting tonight. Mayor Rick Filippi said he won’t veto it because council has enough votes to override any veto. It includes a property tax increase, an earned income tax increase, a sewer rate increase, a garbage rate increase and an amusement tax [...]

The Marxist-Leninist socialists on Erie City Council obviously agree that raising taxes is easier than cutting spending. They are raising every tax and fee that they can. With this move, businesses and residents will continue in even greater numbers to move beyond the city limits. Council finally agreed on a balanced budget by raising property [...]

Along with raising your taxes, Erie County Council voted 7-0 to borrow $1 million and cut one full-time job to part-time. The official vote county for [...]

The Erie newspaper has endorsed Democrats Rubye Jenkins-Husband, Curtis Jones Jr and Lonny Gatlin, and Republican James Eichler for Erie City Council. They oppose the re-election of City Council President Jim Thompson. It scares me a little that I agree with them. The election will be held on November 8. The Census Bureau released its [...]
