The PA Department of Labor reported that Erie County’s jobless rate in January was at 7.2% and Crawford County was at 8.1%. It’s almost a half percentage increase compared to January 2008.

Back after a week off, our YouTube video of this week highlights work the Erie County DUI Task Force does. They recently arrested their 1,000th drunk driver. While it good those drivers were taken off the road, it’s worrisome that people are still drinking and driving. Folks, if you’re drinking, please don’t drive.

Erie received it’s first snow of the season. Instead of a litle dusting to allow us to prepare for Winter, we got dumped on. Areas received anywhere from 4-9 inches of snow. Open you walets. Your 2006 Erie County property taxes are going up. A property with an assessed value of $100,000 will now pay $495, up $27 from this year. Along with raising your taxes, Erie County Council voted 7-0 to borrow $1 million and cut one full-time job to part-time.

Erie County Council approved a $29.65 million bond issue. Included is $4 for improvements at Jerry Uht Park, $14 million for a public safety building, $3.7 million for the pre-release center, $1.8 million for work at the Erie County Courthouse and $3 million for for land acquisition for the Greater Erie Industrial Development Corporation (GEIDC).
