We’re confused. On Monday, we got a press release talking about the opening of Erie County Recycling Convenience Center set to open on April 11. Yesterday, we put the info in our daily news post. The release basically said this:

One of the programs slated to be cut in Gov. Rendell’s budget is the Governor’s School of Excellence program. Started in 1973, 15,000 students have attended one of the eight schools spread out across the state, including one at Mercyhurst College. We hope the program will be put back in the budget.

Erie County Executive Mark DiVecchio still hasn’t resigned or been arrested. DiVecchio has been accused of a laundry list of improprieties of misuse of government employees and assets. He will sit down on Friday with Erie County Controller Sue Weber to try and explain away the charges.

Parsimony is a ‘less is better’ concept of frugality, economy or caution in arriving at a course of action. Erie County Executive Mark DiVecchio can’t grasp this concept. Somehow DiVecchio has taken the excellent idea of a community college and bastardized it into an incredibly expensive, complicated mess only a government bureaucrat can embrace.
