Bishop Michael J Murphy, the former bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Erie passed away on Tuesday. He was 91. GAF Materials Corporation has closed their Erie roofing shingle plant. In January the company announced they were shuttering the 120 year old plant on the bayfront. Around 160 people were laid-off.
