The Federal Reserve has formally approved PNC Bank‘s plan to purchase National City Bank based out of Cleveland, Ohio. With the acquisition, PNC will be the 8th largest depository institution in the U.S. As we blogged last week, PNC is required to sell 61 National City branches, including locations in Erie, Crawford and Warren counties. The PA Department of Environmental Protection issued a drought watch today for 29 counties in the western half of the state including Erie (Harrisburg doesn’t realize we have a big lake we can draw water from). The Pennsylvania House and Senate passed a smoking ban. Philadelphia Governor Ed Rendell said he would sign it. Hotels must have 75 percent of their rooms non-smoking. Never screw with Erie Insurance. The IRS and FBI are investigating insurance payments made to Pennsylvania Superior Court Judge Michael Joyce of Erie.
