U.S. Congresswoman Kathleen Dahlkemper has co-sponsored The Locomotive Fleet Investment and Tax Credit Act of 2009. The tax credit is intended to encourage all aspects of the locomotive industry, through increased manufacturing, sales, and purchasing. Marco Ccamaque, a jockey at Presque Isle Downs and Casino in Erie, was arrested by US Border Patrol agents for being in the country illegally. Ccamaque has been in the country for years as he was the leading rider at Beulah Park Winter/Spring 2005 and Fall/Winter 2004. He is a native of Lima, Peru.

Lisa Maas was murdered in her Pittsburgh apartment. Maas was a 2006 graduate of Harbor Creek High School near Erie. She was attending school at the Pennsylvania Culinary Institute. Mike Crotty was killed in the line of duty while fighting a fire at Port Erie Plastics. Crotty was serving with the Lawrence Park Township Volunteer Fire Department where he was Deputy Chief. Crotty served as a volunteer with the department for six years. Crotty was also a paid firefighter with the Erie Fire Department. [...]

Kevin R Molloy has been named as the new executive director of the Lancaster County Convention Center Authority. Molloy was the general manager of the new Erie Bayfront Convention Center. He had been on the job since 2002 and saw though it’s construction to it’s opening.

Nick Caccavo of Erie died after the 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee he was riding into rear ended a tractor-trailer on I-80 in Clearfield County. Caccavo was majoring in Mechanical Engineering at Penn State. He graduated from Northwestern Pennsylvania Collegiate Academy.

Bishop Michael J Murphy, the former bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Erie passed away on Tuesday. He was 91. He became head of the Erie Diocese in 1978 succeeded retiring Bishop Alfred M Watson. Murphy served as Erie’s Catholic bishop until his retirement in July 1990.

It looks as though Lancaster PA is scrapping plans for their downtown convention center and hotel project. Bids for the $140 million project came in at $20 million over budget. Nearly $30 million has already been spent.
