Mercyhurst announced today it will no longer be holding it’s 4th of July Celebration, opting instead to give money to the City of Erie to hold the Celebration at Liberty Park on the bayfront.

Today is the final day for Celebrate Erie 2006 which ends with a massive fireworks display at 10 pm. The fireworks will be set off from Dobbins Landing.

An Amish family of a father and his two sons were fishing at the Union City Reservoir when their boat overturned. The father, Joas Troyer, was rescued by someone on the shore. Stephen and Matthew of Spartansburg drowned. None of the victims wore life jackets.
