U.S. Congresswoman Kathleen Dahlkemper has co-sponsored The Locomotive Fleet Investment and Tax Credit Act of 2009. The tax credit is intended to encourage all aspects of the locomotive industry, through increased manufacturing, sales, and purchasing. By increasing demand, the act should also preserve jobs in the industry. The act would create a 30% tax credit. [...]

Scott Bremner at WSEE TV broke the news this morning that GE will permanently lay off over 1480 hourly workers. Most affected are those who are already on temporary lay off, about 1200 employees, and 230 who are still working. Also eliminated are 50 salaried positions. The big news out of Harrisburg is the proposed budget by Governor Rendell for 2009-2010. Governor Rendell announced the investment of $12.2 million as part of PennDOT’s Aviation Capital Budget/Transportation Assistance Program. The jury selection continues in the Michael Joyce trial. Judge Maurice Cohill reversed his decision allowing lawyers to question potential jurors in his chambers after a Pittsburgh Tribune-Review attorney objected, saying the selection should be public.
