The PA Department of Labor reported that Erie County’s jobless rate in January was at 7.2% and Crawford County was at 8.1%. It’s almost a half percentage increase compared to January 2008.

Today is Presidents Day. Presidents Day was originally designated in honor of George Washington’s birthday and is still legally called “Washington’s Birthday.” Banks, the post office, the courts, state and county offices and, depending on how your valentine’s weekend went, liquor stores will all be closed today.

For the month of March, wagers at Presque Isle Downs and Casino totaled $206,071,163.08. Payouts were $186,914,595.44. Erie County will received about $10 million a year in taxes from the racino.
