Are you following us at Twitter? You should. It’s cool.
Last evening, Erie City Council passed a resolution saying, basically, they they oppose the building of the tires to energy plant. We don’t think that has any legal or binding power though.
Congrats to Erie blogger emeritus Eden on having her manuscript move on to [...]

This week’s Erie YouTube of the Week provides an inside look at the Brewerie at Union Station with Brewmaster Gary Burleigh. There’s some salty language near the end.

We think it’s super cool that local colleges and universities are using YouTube as part of their promotional efforts, including this spot for Edinboro University’s upcoming Homecoming celebration. (Edinboro, Allegheny College, Gannon University, and LECOM have official YouTube channels.)

This week’s Erie YouTube of the Week gives us a view of the Erie Art Museum’s exhibit of works by local artist Joseph Plavcan (1908–1981). Plavcan moved to Erie as a small child and, after studying in Europe, returned here in 1932 to teach at Erie Technical High School for nearly 40 years. The exhibit [...]

This week, we’ve got a second YouTube video, this time a new commercial from Marquette Savings Bank that celebrates their 100 year anniversary. Great visuals and great music from the Erie Phil.
A lot of local businesses are doing great videos highlighting their work and we try to feature them. Companies – when you do a [...]

This week’s Erie YouTube of the video of week comes from Paul Lorei, a local photographer. He leads viewers on a tour of his studio and talks about some of the services he offers.
This type of advertising is genius (and he hasn’t paid us to say so). Paul’s got charisma and excitement about his product [...]

The big blizzard has come and gone, but the good people of Erie are still dealing with the side effects of the winter’s biggest storm. Some side streets still aren’t clear and many cars have yet to be freed from their plow-induced tombs.
My tip for you: make friends with the people in your neighborhood who [...]

If you’re from Erie or have spent any amount of time here, you know how bad Interstate 90 gets during any type of snow storm. For those of you not from here, let me explain.
I-90 sits at the exact perfect spot in Erie County to catch all the lake-effect snow that comes in off the [...]

Tim Sonney of Bay Harbor Insulation sent me a note this week telling me they too are using YouTube to spread the word about their insulation business. It’s great to see more and more Erie businesses taking advantage of this interesting medium.
BHI has a booth at the Erie Home and Garden show taking place this [...]

Whoops – I forgot to post a video yesterday. Why didn’t anyone remind me?
Anyways, here’s another local company that gets it and is using its TV commercials in other mediums, in this case YouTube. And why not? It’s free and reaches a worldwide audience. Today’s smart company is the Embroidery Shoppe at 31st and Cherry [...]

I love old movies about Erie. We’ve featured them a few times in our weekly YouTube of the week, and this week is no exception.
Doug Boldt sends us this 5 minute clip of the Erie Yacht Club in the 1950’s. according to Doug, many current members appear in the video as kids, including Jack Shultz, [...]

Back in high school, I played in a band. We played some shows around Erie, usually at bars. It was a lot of fun…well maybe not the time we got jumped by a bum outside the old Rathskeller on State St., but I digress.
It should come as no surprise that since I like playing the [...]

For this week’s Erie YouTube of the week, we take a tour of Erie and it’s water-themed attractions. Great video – though all the pretty beach shots make me yearn for warmer weather.
I took places like Presque Isle for granted until I moved away for a few years. Now, it’s such a great place to [...]

For this week’s Erie YouTube of the Week, we’re going old school and featuring a holiday song by the McDowell Vocal Ensemble, recorded way back in 1984.
Sure, you’ll come for the signing but you’ll stay for the hair styles. I counted plenty of bangs and mullets, so in my book this video is a winner, [...]

This week’s Erie video of the week is a tour of WSEE’s production facilities. It’s a really neat behind the scenes look at local news production.
Despite not having a news director, the show must go on.
